CHEZ CÉDRIC GROLET

Bonjour à tous et joyeux mercredi ! Ah mercredi…

Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday! Ah Wednesday… that cruel day in the middle of the week, the children’s day. You either love it or hate it but there’s never a in-between. I hope this new article will help you stay on track until the weekend and maybe, who knows, inspire you for a next outing.

Well, first, a little history. After being targeted in an attack, Emperor Napoleon III decides to build a new cultural site in the heart of Paris to avoid the alleys more conducive to attacks. A competition for the construction of an “Imperial Academy of Music and Dance” is organised and counts seventy-one competitors. Charles Garnier, a young architect, presented a project supported by his colleagues from the École des Beaux-Arts and signed it with a quotation (applications must remain anonymous): “I aspire to much, I expect little”. He was unanimously elected by the jury and later gave his name to the building which was inaugurated in 1875.

O-PÉ-RA. When I created the blog, writing about this place was a no-brainer.

So you will surely not be surprised to learn that it is one of my favourite places. Day and night, I have walked this neighborhood countless times. I had a brief career as a stuntwoman, missing the steps of the subway, I was lucky enough to enter the Opéra Garnier to see a ballet, but also to film. But above all, I spent whole evenings stuffing myself with popcorn at the Boulevard des Capucines cinema.

As those who know me know, I like to say that this neighbourhood is mine. I love it, I adore it, and even though I share it with millions of people, when I’m there, I feel at home.

As you can imagine, in order to write an article worthy of the Michelin guide, I had to do my research and prepare my program. So this weekend was very productive. And above all, gastronomic. For this time, I had the opportunity to discover a place that I had heard very little about despite the media hype about its opening. I’m talking about Cédric Grolet’s bakery-pastry shop. In a nutshell, after joining the prestigious Meurice Hotel as a pastry chef and winning the titles of “Best Pastry Chef” and “Best Pastry Chef in the World”, Cédric Grolet opened his own shop last November. All this at the age of 33. On that note, I leave you to take stock of your life and wish you a good day.

It was therefore obvious to go and discover the world of Mr Grolet.

We arrived in a small, immaculate shop, where the pastry cooks were busy preparing Viennese pastries and other galettes des rois. We go upstairs and discover a room bathed in light and impregnated with the perfumes of the morning, freshly squeezed juices, coffee and hairy eggs. The dream.

We sit down on the bench, place an order and we are served. On the menu, homemade hot chocolate and apple puff pastry and for my guest, avocado toast and orange juice. How can I tell you… That’s what I was afraid of for this article, not finding the words. Because a moment like that, you don’t describe it, you savor it. Here are a few synonyms to give you a vague idea: delicious, tasty, delicate, caramelized, melting, crispy. In short, it’s a delight from beginning to end. The staff takes care of everything, the table is well stocked, and you’re in good company. It’s divine. Now that your mouth is watering, head to 35 avenue de l’Opéra and treat yourself!

Once our “breakfast” has been eaten, we move on to the famous digestive walk. And what could be better than going back up to the Palais Garnier? While the little rats warm up, we enjoy the view, lying in the sun and still amazed by our taste experience.
Paris is awakening and in the distance we can see the Place Vendôme, a potential idea for another stroll. To be continued…

Et vous, aviez-vous déjà pris ce chemin ?

And you, have you ever been down this road before?
