Hola les amis !
Me revoilà en cette fin de semaine avec une nouvelle œuvre à partager avec vous.
Pour cette seconde édition, j’avais pensé reproduire un tableau reflétant la chaleur de cette charmante période estivale, quelque chose de simple et de discret comme La Naissance de Vénus par exemple. Sauf qu’après mure réflexion, j’ai eu peur d’attraper froid (ne vous méprenez pas, les nuits d’été sont traites…)
J’ai donc décidé de jeter mon dévolu sur une autre œuvre certes plus sobre mais non pas moins célèbre, j’ai nommé : Le Violon d’Ingres de l’artiste américain Man Ray.

I’m back this weekend with a new work to share with you.
For this second edition, I had thought of reproducing a painting reflecting the warmth of this charming summer period, something simple and discreet like The Birth of Venus for example. Except that after much reflection, I was afraid of catching a cold (don’t get me wrong, summer nights are treated…).
So I decided to set my sights on another work, certainly more sober but no less famous, I named: Le Violon d’Ingres by the American artist Man Ray.

Pour la petite histoire :

D’une part, si comme moi vous pensiez que cette photo avait pour titre « la meuf à poil avec des trucs de violon dans le dos » j’ai le plaisir de vous apprendre que cette meuf s’appelait Kiki de Montparnasse, qu’elle fût une célèbre actrice, peintre, modèle et danseuse de cabaret (entre autres) et que les trucs de violons qu’elle a dans le dos sont des ouïes. C’est cadeau.
D’autre part, il faut savoir qu’en 1924, à la suite du tirage, Man Ray a rehaussé la photo à la mine de plomb et à l’encre de Chine et c’est ainsi qu’il a ajouté les ouïes du violon. Il aurait appelé son œuvre Le Violon d’Ingres en hommage au peintre français Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres dont il admirait le travail. La Baigneuse et Le Bain Turc sont d’ailleurs deux toiles qui ont inspiré le photographe.
Le violon d’Ingres est également devenu une expression vieillotte pour exprimer un hobby ou un intérêt prononcé dans un domaine. Elle fait notamment référence à la passion qu’Ingres avait pour le violon lorsqu’il ne peignait pas et ici, le titre sous-entend que le violon d’Ingres de Man Ray était les femmes.
La même année, l’artiste avait déjà réalisé une autre photographie représentant Kiki, assise sur une chaise, portant le même turban et dans une position identique. On peut donc supposer que ce cliché laissait présager les prémices du Violon d’Ingres.

For the record:
On the one hand, if like me you thought that the title of this photo was “the naked chick with violin stuff on her back”, I’m pleased to tell you that this chick was called Kiki de Montparnasse, that she was a famous actress, painter, model and cabaret dancer (among others) and that the violin stuff she has on her back is hearing. It’s a gift.
On the other hand, you should know that after the 1924 print, Man Ray enhanced the picture with graphite and India ink and that’s how he added the violin gills. He would have called his work Le Violon d’Ingres in homage to the French painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres whose work he admired. Le Baigneuse and Le Bain Turc are two paintings that inspired the photographer.
Ingres’ violin has also become an old-fashioned expression to express a hobby or a pronounced interest in a field. It refers in particular to the passion Ingres had for the violin when he was not painting and here the title implies that Man Ray’s Ingres’ violin was women.
The same year, the artist had already taken another photograph of Kiki, sitting on a chair, wearing the same turban and in the same position. It can therefore be assumed that this photograph foreshadowed the beginnings of Ingres’ Violin.
